Dave Herman – Nanoscientist
‘I’m creating something totally new’
What I do
I’m currently a PhD student in the Nanoparticle and Quantum Dot Research Group at Victoria University.
My quals
Bachelor of Biomedical Science in Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology, Graduate Diploma in Science and Bachelor of Science with Honours in Chemistry.
Study tips
Work hard, seek help and guidance, communicate both the successes and the failures to your peers. My favourite saying is, ‘When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro’ (Hunter S. Thompson).
Dream mahi
I dreamt I would one day be a forensic scientist. What I’m now doing gives me the potential to discover something absolutely new – such a buzz to me.
I really admire …
The late Sir Paul Callaghan. He was a sensational physicist and a great ambassador for New Zealand.
